DESCRIPTION:The Fargo-Moorhead\, ND Chapter #246 of the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) is sponsoring the NAWIC Education Foundation’s (NEF) Design Drafting Competition for the 2020-2021 school year. The contest provides recognition to contestants for their creative design\, successful problem-solving skills\, and craftsmanship in preparing architectural drawings and renderings. The drawings may be created utilizing any computer aided design (CAD) program available to the contestants\, drawn by hand\, or may consist of a combination of computer aided and hand drawn drawings. The winner of the local competition will go on to compete in the Regional Competition and the Regional winner will be submitted to compete in NEF’s National Competition. \nThe 2021-2022 Design Problem and other information can be accessed via NEF’s website: nef-edu.org\, go to K-12 > Design Drafting for this year’s competition details. This year\, NEF is excited to announce our partnership with project management software company\, Procore. Through the site\, you will be able to find the Design Drafting documents. SUMMARY:Art for 500 Homes submittals due
DESCRIPTION:Anthony Faris is working on a project where he will coordinate the giving of 500 art pieces to families who utilize the Fargo/ Moorhead Food Bank. The goal of the project is to put art in 500 peoples homes – homes that rely on getting their basic needs met. Anthony is collecting images from artists (images of painting\, printmaking\, Photos\, drawings etc). Those images from the Call for entries will be narrowed down to like 30 pieces and then he will have people from the Food Bank choose their top 10. From those\, he will print out editions of 50 prints (culminating in 500 pieces) that will then be framed and given free of cost to families at the Food Pantry for Christmas. The goal of the project is to put art in 500 peoples homes – homes that rely on getting their basic needs met- who may not be able to afford art. This is a social practice project about donating a digital copy that he will make into a 16×20 work to be given away. DESCRIPTION:This Friday\, the Rourke Art Museum will be holding a special reception in celebration of “Peel & Stick III”\, an exhibition of work by the artists\, graphic designers and illustrators of the Albino Buffalo sticker project. This event will also feature the launch of Series Twelve. Stickers available for purchase. Face masks are required and social distancing will be observed in the museum building. Since 2014\, Albino Buffalo has been distributing stickers featuring artwork from local artists of all kinds. These stickers are available to purchase from repurposed sticker vending machines housed at various locations throughout North Dakota. To date\, they have launched 11 series of stickers\, collectively featuring over 60 regional artists\, who together have contributed over 300 works of art. Over 15\,000 stickers have been dispensed via machines at five locations (Unglued\, Office Sign Company\, and Drekker Brewing in Fargo\, Rhythm Records in Bismarck\, and Half Brothers in Grand Forks). Albino Buffalo is owned and operated our own Professor Jeff Knight!

DESCRIPTION:This Wednesday at 6:30pm\, the MU Gallery will host an open forum for the community to discuss the Richard Diebenkorn piece that was taken in 1975. The discussion will include all the research that has been completed thus-far and the working group will review what questions\, leads and issues have not been investigated. This working group is open to those who would like to simply listen and those who would like to actively participate in tracking down the artwork. The artwork was taken from the wall nearly 46 years ago but there has been a growing interest in its return over the last year. Recently\, the Fargo Forum and Valley New Live (https://www.valleynewslive.com/2021/11/06/an-investigation-isstill-going-artwork-that-went-missing-ndsu-46-years-ago/) has covered the lost work. There is no need to RSVP\, simply show up on Wednesday at the Memorial Union Gallery this Wednesday at 6:30pm and we will work together to solve this mystery. DESCRIPTION:New Exhibition up in Flakoll Gallery in Renaissance Hall! Flights of Fancy features collaborative kites and lanterns produced by Art 124 Foundation Design students. Students worked together to design and build the structure of the kites and lanterns using traditional materials bamboo and rice paper. In addition to the design of the structure\, an investigation of relief printing methods provided students an opportunity to print designs and imagery onto the rice paper. Utilizing wood\, sintra\, and linoleum as a matrix\, students explored narrative content in relation to the nearly 3\,000 year old history of kite and lantern design.

DESCRIPTION:The Green New Deal Superstudio was a concerted effort to give form to policy ideas by translating the core goals of decarbonization\, justice\, and jobs into place-specific design and planning projects. Some 670 projects were submitted through the year-long open call\, which attracted the participation of over 90 universities\, and practitioners from across the design disciplines. \nIn this event\, those tasked with reviewing and curating the submissions will critically reflect on the body of work\, highlight key themes\, and show representative examples from the submitted projects. How did the submissions address issues facing their regions? What were the key strategies and ideas? What does this work say about the ability and readiness of the built environment design disciplines to make large-scale change? \nSeveral members of SoDAA’s Landscape Architecture program currently have their work on showcase as part of the Superstudio. DESCRIPTION:As we recognize and honor the enduring legacies and contributions of indigenous peoples\, NDSU Libraries and the School of Design\, Architecture\, and Art invite you to an exhibit of the architecture of Denby M. Deegan\, Surrounded by Enemy. \nArchitectural drawings by Denby Deegan were donated to the NDSU Archives in 2021; view the finding aid for the collection at: library.ndsu.edu/AS2.pub/repositories/3/resources/4405. Denby M. Deegan (1941-2018)\, Surrounded by Enemy\, was a member of North Dakota’s Three Affiliated Tribes\, also known as the Mandan\, Hidatsa and Arikara Nation (MHA Nation)\, and also specifically of the Arikara and Hunkpapa Sioux tribe. Deegan was a 1965 NDSU graduate\, receiving a Bachelor of Architecture degree as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in Architectural Studies. Deegan had a distinguished career as one of the first Native American registered architects in the United States and in North Dakota. The exhibit includes drawings and photographs of some of Deegan’s most well-known projects from his career. Also on display are sketches and details that represent how he incorporated Native American heritage into his design work.  \nVisit the display October 25–November 4\, 2021 at the Flakoll Gallery located on the main floor of Renaissance Hall. Gallery hours are 8am–5pm Monday through Friday. Street parking is available.

DESCRIPTION:Every Wednesday night at 7:30 a new movie will be played on the fifth floor for Movie Night at Renaissance. Dave Swenson and Anthony Faris have curated a diverse selection of random movies all creatives should know! The movies are free and won’t be announced until the night of the event. Dave and Anthony love movies and this event will allow our creative community to gather together and celebrate the most random\, beautiful\, funny and thoughtful movies of the last century! Popcorn will be served. Please bring your own pillow.
